In 1985, Busan built a urban rail line. The line number 1. As the urban rail was built people had seen only on TV by then, they came out to take the urban rail even without a specific destination. It was a surprising transportation although the darkness was only thing people could see out of the window. It took more than two hours to go to Nopo-dong from Nampo-dong by bus, but only one urban rail ticket made it possible for people cut across whole Busan in an hour, even without any motion sickness. In 1999, the second line was built. People could go to Haeundae form Sasang or Gupo, Buk-gu, by urban rail. It was not until a year before the millenium that people learned what ‘transfer’ was. You transfer the urban rail just like the bus, but the urban rail does not charge you for the transfer! In 2005 when the line 3 was built, people became familiar with the urban rail interacting or steering by each other. It was allowed to transfer between bus and urban rail, so that you could save your money if you transfer within a certain interval. In 2011, however, when the first automated light way transit was built in line 4, people could experience an extraordinary sight. There is no engineer or crew member on the line 4 light railway transit operated by RF-CBT type. Without the engineer room, the both sides of the urban rail have only windows.
When you get on the line 4 light railway transit to Anpyeon, you can have a new experience you cannot have even in a train. Standing in the very front car of the urban rail, you can see the widely open view as if you were in a roller coaster. Moreover, there are so many ground railway sections that you can look around everywhere in Gijang in the very front. You can see the ‘Minam-Anpyeong Whole Section HD Video’ on You Tube. Once you see the video, you would say you want to take the line 4 even without any specific destination. In particular, it is the best to enjoy the sight through the window in the very front car at night.
Getting off at Suan station, you can see Japanese Invasion History Hall, where the traces and relics of the invasion in Dongnaeeupseong are exhibited. It is interesting there is a history hall inside a urban rail station, but someone interested in history would already have noticed. The relics were found unexpectedly while constructing the urban rail station. It seems natural since Suan station is in the center of Dongnae. Thanks to the location, Suan station is the world’s only station with a museum in it. Some people visit here on purpose, but usually they are surprised at the museum, saying ‘Oh my god, is this a museum?’ because there is Hongye made out of stones. Hongye is one of the Korean traditional stone building construction methods. It is an arch technically built up with stones. There is a model of the excavation site and a miniature of Dongnaeeupseong inside the museum. The excavation site has reproduced even the human bones explaining that the most of these bones had wounds due to a firelock or a sword. In the corner of the museum is a place to experience the weapons used during Joseon Dynasty. Make a high score.
Anpyeong station is the end of line 4 where the urban rail base and the light railway transit promotion hall is. It would be good to complete your urban rail trip to Anpyeong station in this promotion hall. It is a perfect place for collectors of things related to a urban rail because there is history of the urban rail development exhibited, too. You can also see the light railway transits in other countries. There’s a Humetro theme park right beside the hall, so it is highly recommendable to walk around the park quietly.
